Who let the dogs out? If you find yourself asking that question at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds this weekend, there's a good chance the answer is the Clackamas Kennel Club! They're putting on their popular annual show this Friday through Sunday. We ask them which dogs are the biggest divas, and get our faces licked by a 130-pound Newfoundland.

Canby is a community built on a strong heritage of small, family-run farms, but what do you do when running a small, family farm is arguably more difficult than it's ever been? Well, if you're Jason and Jackie Paolo, you start one anyway. In today's episode, the Paolos welcome us to Canby's Red Chair Farm, where they tell us how their passion for growing things has helped see them through some challenging times.

When the late Joe Sisul showed his wife, Kit, their newly purchased farm property on North Holly Street in 1957, she started crying. They were not tears of joy. But Joe promised her he would one day make it beautiful, and he kept his promise. He eventually turned the 10-acre farm into Frontier Golf Course, which became a destination course particularly in the '80s and '90s, known as much for its picturesque greens as it was for its challenging design.
On today's episode, we chat with Terri Gesik, one of the new owners of Frontier. She and her husband, Chris, are passionate about the course and continuing the legacy Joe and Kit Sisul first began over 60 years ago. They're also looking to add to Frontier's lore with a few quirks of their own.

It's certainly the largest, and probably the most impactful, new development in the history of Canby. For months, the identity of the company behind the project was kept secret. It even had a code name: Project Shakespeare. Today, we know that it's Columbia Distributing, the largest beverage distributor in the Pacific Northwest, the fourth largest in the country, and the newest member of the Canby industrial park.
In today's episode, we give you a sneak peak at the company, their history, corporate culture and philosophy. We'll go on a tour of their large Portland metro area facility, whose operations and employees will be moved to Canby by this time next year. We'll finally unravel the mystery behind that name, Project Shakespeare. And we'll even introduce you to Pedro, the happiest man on Earth.

The once-proud Canby Cougars football team has been enduring a down stretch in recent years, including last year's winless campaign. Through it all, Canby has stayed at the top of Jimmy Joyce's short list of schools he'd love to coach at.
Now, he'll have that chance. He's the new head football coach at Canby High, and he's already jumped in with both feet. In today's episode, he tells us about his coaching philosophy, his thoughts on Canby's gridiron legacy, changes he'll bring to the team's offense, and his belief that the lessons learned on the football field serve players for the rest of their lives.

In today's episode, we introduce you to Mike and Laura Ellis, the wonderful folks behind Mt. Hope Farms. Mt. Hope is a small, diversified, family farm on the outskirts of Molalla, specializing in unique berry and fruit crops, which they smash up, combine with liberal amounts of awesomeness, and turn into the best jams and jellies you've ever tasted. They're a farm family that loves being a farm family, and they try to do it right.
Also, we catch up with Jack Brito and Shannon Allee, of Hotrod Dreamworks, to hear about how you can nominate a deserving Canbyite to receive a new car through their Wheels to Prosper promotion. And...finally! It's the return of our long-lost history segment, Canby Then!

Like father, like son. That's what they say, and the idiom certainly holds true for the Stout family. Patriarch Raymond Stout served as an infantryman in the German occupation force in World War I, albeit reluctantly. His draft form noted he was "sullen and unpatriotic," though he later came to be proud of his military service.
His son, Cecil Stout, followed in his footsteps a generation later when war again enveloped the globe, serving as a bombardier and escaping several brushes with death during the course of his service with the famed bomber group known as the Sky Scorpions. Though the two are no longer with us, their legacy of service lives on in a unique way. We'll tell you all about it, on this very special Memorial Day episode of the Canby Now Podcast.

If you or someone you know is struggling, there are many people in our community who care, who understand what you're going through and who want to help. Find information and resources at https://www.clackamas.us/behavioralhealth/suicideprevention.html.
